Two of Cups

Tristram & Isolt

Fortune Cookie: Be there! Be open!  Reach out for the ☼☼☼NEW☼☼☼ that is coming into your life!  Let yourself be available to receive and pursue it.  RIGHT NOW!!!!

Hmmmmmm… This card last showed up only twelve days ago.  Because it’s back soon, once I again, please pay attention and take advantage of it fer the luvva whatever you consider sacred!

And, once again, my interpretation of the card varies some from the norm. This surely no longer surprises anybody.

Many readers would respond to this card by suggesting things like friendship, affinity, concord, union, even love.   Some might say it bespeaks a complementary match, or a very solid relationship.

Anna-Marie Ferguson, creator of the Legend deck, finds things like the beginning of a trusted partnership, rapport and the forming of strong emotional bonds.

Not even I would be idiot enough to fight with that, or to want to. So especially if any of those interpretations resonate with you – in terms of what you’re seeking lately or in terms of what the Universe seems to be offering today – honor it.  Seek it.  Go after it full tilt

But when this card has turned up for many clients, the intuitive information that almost always pops out of my mouth is,

“Look:

Some amazing (or beautiful or tremendously healing or whatever) NEW ENERGY(or opportunity or person or position or vision) is trying to come into your life.

It will, if you let it, sweep you off in a wonderful, beautiful, incredibly positive NEW DIRECTION

LET IT!

LET IT!

LET IT!

So:

Be there! Be open!  Reach out for the ☼☼☼NEW☼☼☼ that is coming into your life!  Let yourself be available to receive and pursue it.  RIGHT NOW!!!!

Bright blessings and beautiful new directions!

The Hierophant

Taliesin

Fortune Cookie: Get to know in a much deeper way your nature as a magical Renaissance man or woman, and bring together all of your expertise and faculties.

No, he doesn’t look like Johnny Depp.  Or Orlando Bloom, either.  So there.

We haven’t seen this card since about nine days ago.  So I guess we all need a reminder about who we may really be.  Eh?  Do try to actually pay a little attention this time, won’t you?

As I’ve said before, this is a card so dense with information and direction, I hardly know where to start.   So hang on a minute while I think about it.

Right.  Thanks.  Again.

First, I have heard some people refer to this card as the older, more grounded partner to The Priestess.  Fine, fine, fine with me.  But let’s go beyond that.

Some readers find that this card betokens a marriage alliance or servitude, but also mercy and goodness.  Others understand it as indicating the making of a long term commitment or that a new, helpful guiding influence is about to come into your life.  So keep an eye out for that, especially if things have been more bumpy or chaotic than normal.

Anna-Marie Ferguson, creator of the Legend deck, sees The Hierophant in many lovely ways.  Some of my favorites are a person with experience he or she is willing to share; a generous spiritual mentor; initiation; drawing security and comfort from one’s roots. But also, feeling constricted by conformity to orthodoxy. [Hissssssss!]

You won’t find me negating any of those possibilities.  But, still, I go in my own direction with a card as important as this.

When this card turns up for a client, I start off by reminding them that, in some Arthurian legends, Taliesin became Arthur’s magical helper after Merlin left the scene.  (In some tales, Taliesin and Merlin together stand at water’s edge as the vessel bearing Arthur departs for Avalon.)  So it’s a card of magical assistance or guidance.

Taliesin was one of the great, archetypal Bards of the Island of the Mighty.  As such [at least as I understand it] he was a shapeshifter and wizard; a wisdom keeper; a singer; a poet; a musician; and he brought all those abilities together as a healer; and a teacher; and a community mediator.  Not to mention being the power behind the throne, for − in some of what I have read – you couldn’t lead a Celtic clan or tribe unless the Bards declared you were THE ONE.

So I see The Hierophant as being a kind of super, magical Renaissance man or woman, who brings together and uses (brilliantly) not only ordinary reality skills, training and power, but magical, spiritual, sacred connections and capacities as well.

This can also be the keeper of ancient and hidden and powerful wisdom… not a bad thing to be or to look out for.

One thing more.  In the first Tarot decks created LONG ago, there was no Hierophant card.  There was instead… The Pope.  Why?  Because, at the time, the Pope was The Absolute Pinnacle of Power and wealth, not only materially but  (as he was perceived at the time) also spiritually.

So when the Hierophant shows up, I often say, Ya wanna really grow materially?  Devote a lot more quality time and effort to growing spiritually.  For you, the two must go hand in hand.”

So:

Be open to the possibility of a very beneficial new alliance.

Seek for (or perhaps seek to be) a generous spiritual mentor.

Get to know in a much deeper way your nature as a magical Renaissance man or woman, and bring together all of your expertise and faculties.

Own all of that, and move toward your highest and best both spiritually and materially.

Start today!

Brightest, most diverse and magical blessings!

The Emperor

Arthur

No.  No.   No.

Not. THAT. Arthur.

For tha luvva

Fortune Cookie:  Use your wonderful intellect very well today, you silly bugger. That’s why you have it.  And accept a leadership position that is unexpectedly thrust upon you.

Really, Neal… Again with the silly Dudley Moore schtick.  Really?   I don’t  believe it.  J…

Ahem.

 Hmmm….

Haven’t seen this guy since mid-November.  And yes, you are remembering correctly that yesterday’s card was The Empress.  Couldn’t make that stuff happen if I wanted to.  So… Think it might mebbe be worth taking an extra moment to pay a little attention to the wisdom imparted here, then?  Eh?

Okay.

This is a powerful, positive card [and I know bunches of folk who can use one at the moment], that encourages us to see the goodness flowing to us and our world.  Even more, it asks that we believe in that and really be open to it.

Anna-Marie Ferguson, creator of the Legend deck, writes that this card betokens

wisdom and power,

conquest and conviction,

courage and ambition

balanced with

reason and fair play.

That would be nice, for a change.

It can also herald a caring person with many responsibilities, so have an eye out for someone like that.  [If it looks like me in your mind’s eye, you’re surely daft.]

I perceive The Emperor to be a card of intellect well used and accomplishment attained.

For some clients, I find that it indicates they may be thrust into a new position of power or leadership, even if they have not sought it.  When that is the case, I ask that they accept the new responsibilities (and the attendant opportunities) graciously.  I say something like:

“If the Universe didn’t think you were ready for this, IT wouldn’t have put you in a position to receive it.  So go for it and be brilliant about it!  You can be, you know!!!!!”

Be open to the helpful counsel of others [especially me], so that a greater wisdom can be attained and acted on [maybe it’s not me after all].

This is a card of progress and security.  So believe in that – own that − as a true, evident and inevitable possibility.

Use your wonderful intellect very well today; that’s why you have it.  Seek wisdom through the counsel of others who truly have something helpful to offer.  Know that, through such actions, progress and security can be yours.

Bright blissings!

The Empress

Guenevere

Fortune Cookie: If opportunity knocks, rise to the occasion!  Don’t hold yourself back.  And take a risk or two on something that you love and believe in.

Saw this card EXACTLY five months ago.  Glad it’s back, because we can all use a regular dose of encouragement and goodness like The Empress  provides — especially now that we [in Ohio] are smack in the middle of what I hope will be the final throes of a long, wretchful, icy winter.  Ack!

The Empress card really does take us lovingly by the throat and say, “Look.  No, really, LOOK! Today has the potential to be SUCH a great, beautiful day!  Remember that, will ya?  And take advantage of it.  That’s why we’re giving it to you.

The Empress is a card of abundance, creativity, beauty and fertility.

It’s a card of nurturing, both giving and receiving.

On a day ruled by this card, you can find opportunities to go after your most enriching, ennobling dreams.  [So it really is pretty important that you have some idea what they are.  Right?] [Check out the card from yesterday, already.]

Open yourself to your museBelieve in your creativity and let it flow.  And keep an eye out for beneficence from an admirable, kind and generous community leader ~ most likely a woman.

If opportunity knocks, rise to the occasion!  Don’t hold yourself back.  And take a risk or two on something that you love and believe in.

Bright blessings and beautiful opportunities!

Ten of Spears

The Green Knight

Fortune Cookie: How will you go on a wonderful, transformative spiritual adventure?  Now!

Hmmm…  We last saw this fellow exactly a week ago. So do kindly pay attention then, won’t you?  I mean, it’s not like I have nothing better to do than crank out the same old information every week, year in and year out.  Or maybe…

Well!

Altogether now:

Tens in any Tarot deck betoken the end of one cycle and the beginning of another, or even the end of one way of life and the beginning of another.  So, if I were reading for you today and this card came up, I’d ask:

How do the things you have been experiencing – and more importantly, how do the things you have begun to long for in life just now – represent a strong message to you that you must allow yourself to acknowledge the end of a cycle and the powerful potential for you to move into something wonderful and new, even miraculous?  How can you keep that in front of you not only today, but all through the year?  [Because you should, you know.]

Then I’d say:

Beyond that general information about cycles, I believe the Ten of Spears says in no uncertain terms, “You.  Yeah, YOU!  Go on a spiritual adventure.  Let yourself be open to new and incredibly transformative experience.  Keep a sharp eye out for integrity, in yourself and in those around you – particularly teachers, leaders and spiritual directors.  And seek spiritual renewal through the wondrous.  Yes, starting RIGHT NOW.  Get going!  DO IT!

So, in consideration of the fact that it’s time for you to begin an entirely new phase of your life, and in consideration of the fact that I’m reading for YOU today, let me be a little pushy and ask a couple readerly but obnoxious questions.  [Doofus reader clears throat, straightens vest, cleans french fry grease from shirt, looks for lost fries, if any, for a snack, clears throat again]:

What ARE the spiritual adventures and transformative experiences and magical evolutions you’ve always hungered for but never really had the courage, or time, or cash, or whatever to pursue?

Now, given that you and I are

~ a.) Looking at the specific energy you are being asked to embrace to start this (perhaps suddenly new) cycle, and ~

b.) Bearing in mind that you are being asked to accept, own and foster this energy and therefore this transformational nature of yourself over an extended period (so you don’t think you hafta have it all together by dinner tonight) ~

c.) What dreams, hopes, changes will you PLEASE actually give yourself permission to believe in and REALLY pursue so as to have achieved them by, say, a year-and-a-day from now?

(Okay, for you Capricorns, Virgos and Aquariuses {Aquariusae? Aquamarines?  Aquadoodles?} you have my permission to take a minute and write the answers down in a list on paper.  Aquarians — like me — will have lost the list by lunch anyway.  Virgos will have the list memorized, backwards and forwards.  With neat little inked-in squares at the head of each point.  Obsessive little…  Ummm…)

d.) And what are one or two baby steps you can take today and this week and this month to begin the concrete process of demonstrating your commitment to this new cycle and beginning your quest?  (Aquarius, that would mean finding the list. Or even typing/printing out the questions and taping them above your desk.  Or to your forehead.  Or making them into a tee shirt.  Writing them on your palm.  Anything.)

So, will you love yourself and the world enough to take those questions on — for the “New” You (new cycle, new way of life, new whatever)?  We’d all sure appreciate it!

By the way, here’s some info about how other folks see the Ten of Spears:

Some view the Ten of Spears as a card of

~ oppressive energy that is overcome to achieve success (So know that you may feel challenged by the nature of the changes or goals you give yourself permission to go after, or perhaps by those around you who don’t get the point.)

~ disguise or false seeming (That’s why it’s important to keep an eye out for integrity in those you connect with, and perhaps even in yourself and your own motives.)

~ an awesome task which is successfully accomplished through perseverance (You deserve to take on something awesome.  That’s what’s worthy of you and your true nature.  Besides, that’s why you’re HERE right now.  Right?)

So, for today and for this “New” You:

How will you (how would you wish to) end one cycle and begin another?

How will you go on a wonderful, transformative spiritual adventure?

How will you be open to miraculous experiences, and recognize the miraculous nature of your life and of yourself?

How will you guard your integrity and seek for it in others?

How will you make this the most beautiful and wondrous of times

starting today, starting now?

Bright blessings and miracles!

Quote for the Day: A vital ingredient of success is not knowing that what you’re attempting can’t be done. ~ Terry Pratchett, from Equal Rites

Today’s Weather: Evening ragas.  Pork-pie automobiles, like the 1960 Rambler.  Daoine Maithe

On This Date: 1876Alexander Graham Bell makes the first successful telephone call by saying “Mr. Watson, come here, I want to see you.”

Page of Shields

The Badger

Fortune Cookie: Get down to what’s REALLY important; dig in to push that effort along. Pay very close attention to defining healthy boundaries as YOU perceive and need them. Then maintain and defend those boundaries fully.

Okay.  No side (or snide) remarks about haranguing the Tarot reader, or badgering the old badger, please.  As I said before, this is MY blog, and that kind of lame drivel is… MINE!  And I own it.  Especially on a Wednesday.  So don’t press my luck. Don’t…  Umm…  Oh well.

We last saw this guy 11 months ago almost to the day.  And I was just thinking, based on what I’ve been hearing from clients, it was time for him to turn up again.

Typical readers might say something along the line that this card implies focused application, study or reflection.  They’d say, umm… if you really concentrate on what’s important to you, right about now you’re in a position to achieve extraordinary results.  The implication is that you MUST put something extra in if you wish to get out what you really want.  So figure out what that’s about for you and go after it!

Anna-Marie Ferguson, creator of the Legend deck, finds the card betokens such things as a tenacious, reliable person and a hunger for knowledge, among her interpretations.

In working with my clients, [and having encountered a badger just once in a meadow, and he was a MOODY little blighter] this is what I usually say when this card turns up:

I truly love badger. Badger really gets down to it and digs in to get things done.  Badger prefers to be peaceable, a homebody of sorts who attends to the things that are necessary, the things that are important within the bounds of his or her own little kingdom.

And if you ever cross into badger’s territory without his or her express permission, there is no anger, no fuss.  Badger will simply tear off your leg, leave you in a heap and go on about business, easy-peasy-comfy-cozy.

So I suggest that my clients understand badger as a pretty useful role model where defining and holding boundaries may be concerned, especially in our culture.  I haven’t ever had anyone NOT understand the importance of that.  Nor comment that boundaries really weren’t an issue in their life, thanks.

So, for today:

~ Focus and study well, if you perceive that’s what’s in order.

~ Get down to what’s REALLY important; dig in to push that effort along.

~ Pay very close attention to defining healthy boundaries as YOU perceive and need them.

Then maintain and defend those boundaries fully for the highest and best of all.

Bright blessings!

Nine of Shields

Ragnell

Fortune Cookie: What is the magical transformation of yourself and your life you would have by being given permission (giving yourself permission) to do what you really want and be who and what you really are?

We last saw this card around mid-October.  Seems like there have been a number of cards cycling back up from about then lately.  So, is there something in YOUR life that is cycling back from last autumn?  Hmmm?

This is always a good card to work with and learn from.  [You may notice that this is the card I pulled when seeking information about how I should think of my blog itself, and what I should hope to offer through it.]

The Nine of Shields asks that we be open to

magical transformation – of ourselves and our lives –

through love

by being given

[or giving ourselves]

permission to do what we really want to do

and be who we really are

It is therefore useful to look at this card from this perspective

[so ASK YOURSELF THIS!]:

If I could change myself and/or my life in any and all of the way(s) that I wish to in order to be true to myself −

What would I change?

Who and what would I be?

What would I ask of life this time around?

What would I give to the planet at this time?

How would I give it?

Then ask what baby steps will get you moving in that direction.  And love yourself enough to let yourself begin and take them.

While you’re at it, it might also be a good thing to take a look ’round at the people you care most about.

Ask for guidance about what you might offer (without negating who you are or what your hopes are) to help them seek and attain their magical transformation through love by giving them permission to do what they really want and be who they really are.

Honor and integrity are important elements in the revelations of this card as well.

It might be worthwhile to go through the story of  Lady Ragnell to get a sense of what this card can be about.  That will require a Nealio’s-fracturized-beat-all-to-hell-and-put-back-together-sorta-faerystory version of the legend behind the card.

The story begins when King Arthur is challenged, at peril of the loss of his kingdom, to discover the answer to an ancient and powerful riddle.

The knight Gawain, Arthur’s nephew, sets out to find the answer to the riddle for him, and eventually he encounters the hag Ragnell.  She offers the solution if he’ll take her to give it to the King personally.

Gawain takes her to Camelot and presents her to Arthur, who asks for the answer.  She replies that she will whisper the answer into the King’s ear − if Gawain will promise to marry her.  Arthur says, “Good Gawd, woman, you must be freaking kidding me,” or Medieval words to that effect.  Gawain selflessly consents to the marriage to help his uncle Arthur, Ragnell reveals the secret to the King, and Camelot is saved.

The wedding of Gawain and Ragnell goes ahead as planned, and the new pair retires to the bedroom. Ragnell asks, “Won’t you give me a little kiss?” and Gawain dutifully does so, then turns away, contemplating how truly wretched the rest of the night, not to mention his life, will be.

When he turns back to her, he is astonished to find the most beautiful woman he has ever seen standing before him.  She explains she had been under a spell to look like a hag until a good knight married her and kissed her with kindness, if not affection.  He is, of course, delighted.

“But wait, fair knight,” she says, or, “Hold up, homey,” or something like that.  “Wait, y’all. You must understand that my true appearance will be restored for only half the day.”  She gives him the choice to have her beautiful at night, when they are alone together, or during the day, when they are with all his friends in Camelot.

Without hesitation, Gawain tells her that she must have the choice for herself. This generous, unforced, unrequested answer lifts the curse for good, and Ragnell’s true appearance and nature return forever.  And Gawain pretty much does a Macarena all around the room, being the class act he is.

So, what is the magical transformation of yourself and your life that you would have through love by being given permission (and/or giving yourself permission) to do what you really want and be who and what you really are?

By the way, in case you have some interest in knowing the riddle and its answer:

The question was, “What is it a woman desires most?”

The answer (two versions):

“Her own way.”

~ OR ~

“The right (sovereynté) to decide for herself.”

Bright Blessings!

Ten of Spears

The Green Knight

Fortune Cookie: How will you go on a wonderful, transformative spiritual adventure?  Now!

Hmmm…  We last saw this fellow in mid-November. ‘Bout time it came back ’round!

So, altogether now:

Tens in any Tarot deck betoken the end of one cycle and the beginning of another, or even the end of one way of life and the beginning of another.  So, if I were reading for you today and this card came up, I’d ask:

~ a.) Looking at the specific energy you are being asked to embrace to start this (suddenly new) cycle, and ~

b.) Bearing in mind that you are being asked to accept, own and foster this energy and therefore this transformational nature of yourself over an extended period (so you don’t think you hafta have it all together by dinner tonight) ~

c.) What dreams, hopes, changes will you PLEASE actually give yourself permission to believe in and REALLY pursue so as to have achieved them by, say, a year-and-a-day from now?

(Okay, for you Capricorns, Virgos and Aquariuses {Aquariusae? Aquamarines?  Aquascutums?} you have my permission to take a minute and write the answers down in a list on paper.  Aquarians — like me — will have lost the list by lunch anyway.  Virgos will have the list memorized, backwards and forwards.  With neat little inked-in squares at the head of each point.)

d.) And what are one or two baby steps you can take today and this week and this month to begin the concrete process of demonstrating your commitment to this new cycle and beginning your quest?  (Aquarius, that would mean finding the list. Or even typing/printing out the questions and taping them above your desk.  Or to your forehead.  Or making them into a tee shirt.  Writing them on your palm.  Anything.)

So, will you love yourself and the world enough to take those questions on — for the “New” You (new cycle, new way of life, whatever)?
