The Tower

Vortigern’s Fortress

Fortune Cookie: Go back to the shop.  Spend some time hammering out a few of the most basic details about who you are, what you believe, what your foundation is, what you want to build — and why.

Hmmmmm…

Hmmmmmmmm-mmmmm….

We last saw this card on the Autumnal Equinox.  In retrospect, I sure wish me an’ mah fellah liburuls had paid better attention.  Ah well, that’s water over the rainbow.  Or whatever.

This really is a very helpful card.  Yes, really.

But still, I can’t help wanting to launch just a wee tiny technicolor

OH BUGGER

There.  I feel much better now.

As I said, this IS such a valuable card.  [And it’s one of my longer posts, for which I apologize.]  [Yes, really.  But don’t expect me to grovel, mind…] So here we go.

As we have seen, his is definitely another of those OhBugger! kinda cards, at least from its appearance — in ANY Tarot deck.

It’s one of those cards for which − by my interpretation, which veers a good piece from the norm − I’m supposed to tell you, “Ah, yes, yes, yes.  Don’t jump to conclusions.  Don’t leap before you look.  Really significant opportunities for growth and learning here.”

And as I always ask,

Remember the teachers (from high school math types to your skating coach to Ram Dass to Mother Teresa to Miss Laura on Romper Room to un-indicted senators and everybody in between) who have said that?  It always really means, “Get ready for some deep down bone-crunching head-spinning hard work!”  Even I admit that, and I have the honesty quotient of a newt.

Well, so, maybe that old hard work thing IS the case here.  Maybe.  But with this card, it’s also a matter of IMPORTANT work that will be worth your time and energy for sure.   Hard work, yeah, yeah, true, but SO VERY meaningful.

Now, The Tower isn’t a dire card, at least not as I’ve been given to understand it – intuitively and through my experience with clients.

But when my clients see it as it’s depicted in the Legend deck − a huge red dragon fighting a ginormous white one, completely destroying a massive royal fortress in the process – it sort of makes them go, “Eeep-Mewlp,” suck in their breath,  swallow hard and say, “WTF!”  [That’s Wensleydale Trainspotting Factotums.]

So what’s different about my understanding of the card and what it offers?  I usually say something like:

Okay, I know it looks scary, dragons fighting, castles blown to bits.  But really, it’s positive.

The card is asking you to examine yourself, your hopes & dreams and your being.

It’s saying, Hey.  Stop for a minute.  Look at your life.  Think about it now.

If you take your life down to its foundation, down to what’s REALLY important, what’s really essential to the you that is really you, then

WHAT IS THAT TRUE FOUNDATION?

Who are you?      What are you?       What is it that you REALLY care about and REALLY have available to build upon, and wish to build upon, this time around?

And, by the way, WHAT will you build upon it?

This evaluation should be applied to every area of significance in your life, particularly those in which you’re experiencing some transition.  [Transition.  What a weenieword

How about .  Or .  Or  .  Better?]

What is the true foundation – for YOU:

What is the true foundation of career?

What is the true foundation of family?

What is the true foundation of relationships – of each and every kind, from the most intimate and powerful to minor friendships to the bagger at the grocery store?

What is the true foundation of joy?

What is the true foundation of spiritual connectedness?

What is the true foundation of physical health?

What is the true foundation of emotional health?

What is the true foundation of creativity?

What is the true foundation of home?

What is the true foundation of beauty?

And so on, all through the entire list: everything on your own personal list of areas of your life that are important to you.

What IS the true foundation for YOU?

[And how many different type faces can this idiot insert for no good reason in one single post?]

Once you know what your various true foundations are, then you can determine what you’d like to build upon them, how you want to do it, and what the best way is to go about it.

And it’s perfectly okay if what you wish to build changes.  It can be a villa at one time, a pagoda another, a log cabin next and a fairy castle sometime after that.  So long as you know WHAT your foundations TRULY are, and honor them, then what you are about building is and will be perfect.

What are your foundations in each area of your being?  How can you be mindful of them?  How can you stay mindful of them?  What do you wish to build upon them?  How can you begin today?

Bright blessings and a deep, happy, helpful knowing of yourself!

Four of Spears

La Cote Male Tale & Maledisant

Fortune Cookie: What is your perfect marriage?  What steps will it take to get you there?  How can you begin, at least with a baby step, today?

This card last dropped by in latish October.

In most Tarot decks, the Four of Spears would be seen as a card of harmony, prosperity, happy social occasions and perhaps even romance.  So, because this is a Sunday, I hope you will find a way to have them be on tap for today, or at least for this evening. By all means go after them in any way that won’t get anybody arrested.

When I’m working with a client, I tend to perceive the card as having a stronger energy than those attributes listed above, wunnerful though they are.  In fact, I feel this card makes makes a pretty powerful demand on the person I’m reading for.

Because of Anna-Marie Ferguson’s illustration for this card in her Legend deck, and the story it portrays, I call it “The Card of the Perfect Marriage.”

If I were reading for you − as I am just this sec, no? [now that I’m sober enough to think of it] [Wait… Am I?  Uhhh…  Guess I must be.  Okay.] – I’d suggest you take a few minutes this weekend for a good, hard, close look at all the major areas of your life, especially the ones that register as REALLY important to you just now – whether business, spiritual path, health, and yeah, even relationship – and ask yourself honestly:

What would it take — from everyone involved — to help the situation so that it can evolve into a “perfect marriage?”  Or, what will it take to be honest with yourself and accept that a perfect marriage in said area really-prob’ly- just-ain’t-gonna happen?  And what are all the implications either way?

And remember that, at least as it is represented archetypally, marriage is a coming together of opposites

So think about how something that seems completely the opposite of what you’d normally expect — or would normally want to try or would normally think could succeed — might create the harmony, the prosperity, the health, the partnership, the opportunities, the “perfect marriage” you seek.

In the areas of your life most important to you today: What is your perfect marriage?  What steps will it take to get you there?  How can you begin, at least with a baby step – perhaps in an unusual way or unusual direction – today?

Bright blessings and happy realizations!

Six of Cups

In Ector’s Keeping

Fortune Cookie: Easy, sweet, nostalgic in a positive way, calm and comforting ~ that’s the theme to get you through the day.

This card last showed up in mid-December.  It’s kind of a perfect card for the season.  Particularly if you are at home, cozied up with a half-dozen rugrats, cats or spaniels on a snowy Saturday.

I frequently wish this card would come around more regularly. Like, daily!

As I always say to my clients, “Remember when you were eight years old and summer lasted forever, and all you really had to was love your dog, go swimming with your friends and dream about how wonderful the world could be?”   Well, that’s the energy and essence of this card as I see it.

The Six of Cups is a card that bespeaks the beauty and the joy and the innocence and the wisdom of an almost ideal childhood.  So in your connections and interactions today:

Look for a quality like that in all those you meet.  If you can’t find it, you’re probably not with the right people.  Period. So, if it’s at all possible given the day, keep on moving till you’re with someone or someones whose energy is those wonderful things — even if the someones are, say, the masses of house sparrows gratefully noshing at the feeder in your back garden.  Or a bunch of tourists flocking upon your favorite art museum. Let yourself share in that vibe and be happy and comfortable there — and assume that you deserve to be there!

Try to find new ways for yourself to be a calm, still, comforting pool in the center of the manic muddle around you.  Especially give yourself permission to be that way to and for yourselfCall to mind all that which is and has been beautiful, and hopeful, and healing in your world, and keep those things flowing through your mind.  (If you do Reiki, for example, start Reikiing yourself and everything in your vicinity the moment you read this, and keep going from there.)

Also, this is a card that suggests you may have old friends re-enter your life.  Be open to that as a wondrous possibility today.

Easy, sweet, nostalgic in a positive way, calm and comforting ~ try to give yourself that today.  Better still… try to BE it today.

Brightest, happiest blessings!

On This Date: 1845 – “The Raven” is published in the New York Evening Mirror, the first publication with the name of the author, Edgar Allan Poe.

The Sun

Lleu

Fortune Cookie: What are your wishes?  Stay conscious of those wishes as you go through your day.  Honor those wishes in positive ways.

This card last turned up way back ten days ago.  But that’s fine with me.  It’s one of those cards I could see once a week and be delighted to work with again.  It’s a GREAT card for any day, any season of the year.

Attend.

There is so much hope in this card!  And that’s something we can all use lately.

It’s especially aimed at those − like I am, without any question or possible hope of plausible deniability − who would be deliriously happy with a card that says, “Grab a double espresso or two.  Crawl into a linen-lined cave till that bright, shiny thing in the sky dims a bit.  Then check to see if it’s safe to come out.”

Unh –UH!

NO!NO!NO!

[God, Neal will you PLEASE turn down the print?  You’re giving yourself a headache already.]  [Sorry.]  [Nitwit.]

This card is also appropriate for people who have been saying something like, “This isn’t working.  It really, really isn’t working.  What am I doing wrong?  In fact, what am I doing?  What? Really, WHAT??  ‘Cos this thing here juss don’ seem to be working no way!”

Well, let’s all pay attention.  Even me.  I.  Whatever.  [Nitwit.]

On this morning, the Universal Sun will be cruising just outside all our bedroom windows, saying,

“Hey!

“HEY!!!!!!!!

“The snow is glistening like crazy, and the tress are sparkling like those first scenes in the movie CamelotThe blue jays are competing for seed with everybody, especially the squirrels and the rats under the garage.  The cocker spaniel is off to the back of the garden to help the jays with the squirrels.  The falcon is in another neighborhood.

“It really is amazingly beautiful out here!!  And there is so much AMAZING potential if we just open to it and connect!  LOOOOOOVE Your World!  Love Your Self!  LOOOOOOOOVE Your LIFE!  Yesterday’s gone.  Let it go.  Let it go! Go after you most beautiful and beloved wishes!  Nooooow!!!!!!!!!!

Okay?

What?

Specifics?  Specifics??

Where’s your spirit of adventure?  Of exploration?  Of checking it out on Google?

Okay.

Fine.

Be that way.

But only because I’m in a good mood.  Or was.  Till now.  Thanks.

This card is generally a big “Yes!” card, a confirmation that what you seek is on its way.

It doesn’t take too much work to figure out that The Sun betokens joy, light, and clarity of vision.  Not to mention material happiness and general contentment.  A really lovely offering for any day, no?

So OWN that!  !! !

For me, The Sun is one of the two great wish cards of the deck.

I find it says,

“You shall have happiness, health, wealth, peace and all good things

IF you are clear within yourself about what your wishes truly are

(now, not yesterday, not last year, not a decade or two ago)

AND you hold true to those wishes, moment by moment by moment throughout the day and throughout your life.”

After all, the Universe can only give back to you what you put out as vibration.

Right?

[How many people said OUCH!?  Uh Hunh!]

And the Universe will judge what your wishes are in large part by that to which you GIVE YOUR ATTENTION, moment by moment by moment.  Right?  Right?  Right!

[Okay, who said, “Oh, I am SO screwed!”  WRONG ATTITUDE, PRINCESS!]

Keep your attention on what you positively wish, for pity’s sake!

RIGHT!

MUCH Better!!  !

(By the way, in some interpretations, The Sun betokens an engagement. So if you’ve wanted to pop the question… just be sure it’s what you REALLY WISH!)

What is your wish?

What are your wishes?

How can you

 stay conscious

of those wishes

as you go through your day?

How can you honor those wishes in positive ways

Hold your wishes as your focus − even as you go through all the activity, priorities and sheer STUFF you must attend to as you do what you must to deal with your day.

How can you LOVE YOURSELF and LOVE YOUR LIFE

See the beauty.

NOW!!!

Brightest blessings and superb wishcraft!

Today’s Weather:  Canticles of light.  Spaniels of wisdom in love with the wind.  Into the wood!

On This Date: 1978 – The Great Blizzard of 1978with the lowest non-tropical atmospheric pressure ever recorded in the US, strikes OhioGreat Lakes  with heavy snow and winds up to 100 mph.

And: 1958 – Ellen DeGeneres, American actress and comedian is born.

The Judgement

Avalon

Fortune Cookie: Know what you want. Don’t be crazy, necessarily, but be willing to try something unusual or out of character to get it.  Reach out for your destiny.

We last saw this card three moths ago to the day! And it’s really a pretty useful card for a midwinter day; it’s a fine prompt for taking a look at how we might want to shake things up a bit in some positive ways.  And it’s always a good card to work with and one we would do well to allow to guide us. I certainly need to pay more attention to it! [Maybe I will anyway?]

So.  Then.   Several layers of interpretations here, and all worth a looksee.

If there’s any inkling in your mind that you might be being

just a tad

judgemental

in any way, shape or form, it’s tremendously important that you STOP THAT RIGHT NOW ~ don’t be judgemental of anyone else.  And especially don’t be judgemental toward yourself. It’s not useful or even valid to be that way.  Today, and for a while to come, anyway (like a year or so).

That doesn’t mean you should let yourself – or anyone else − run hog wild, going off half-cocked and half baked in every goofy direction that occurs. That’s my niche and I really don’t need any more competition, thanks.

Nor should you beat yourself up if you really want to just get quiet and do what it takes to stay grounded – or want to just hide and say, “To hell with ALL these freakin’ Bozos!” for today.  Oh. Wait.  That would be kinda judgemental.  So you can do it (hide away). Just… don’t say it.

It does mean

~ don’t repress your own tendency to wish for what you really wish for

~ don’t berate yourself for wanting to be able to upgrade WELL beyond what ordinary reality might provide lately in some area of your life, but

~ stay grounded for the moment regarding what you actually grab or grab for

And send kind energy and blessings of Light to those who do get sucked into any craziness that’s around at the moment.  [I resent what you’re thinking.  Mean!]

Also [and I’m finding this one to be unusually important with my clients lately],

be sure you are pursuing what really is for the highest and best of all

Don’t just do what you’ve always been told you should do in order to be successful, popular, spiritual, thinner, blahdee, blahdee, blahblahblah…

Wrong!

That’s a bit better, then.

Anyway.

Different decks portray ~ and different readers interpret ~ The Judgement in exceptionally different ways.  Some say it indicates a change of position, a renewal or reawakening, an ultimate outcome.  Can be good stuff at any time of  year. with a little good fortune.

Anna-Marie Ferguson, creator of the Legend deck, finds it portends passing through a gateway to a new existence, an understanding of how one’s actions influence others, good health or a positive legal outcome.

Moi? [Thought you’d never ask.]  I tend to see this card as requiring some action.  When this card appears, I’m likely to say:

Look.  Really.  There are powerful, helpful people who would be happy to work with you, work on your behalf, who might actually be out there looking for you right now.  But they can’t FIND you where you usually are these days.

There are wonderful, transformational experiences waiting for you.  But they can’t happen where you are, in the rhythm of your life as you currently live it.

You’ve got to

go new places,

meet new people,

do new things!

And push yourself a bit to keep doing that for the foreseeable future.

So, while staying grounded and aware of what your wishes are − or could be if you really owned what it is you really wish for − entice yourself out of your rut. Shop at different stores, from grocers to clothiers to where you buy your lottery tickets or get your dry cleaning done. Go to different movies at different theaters.  Eat at different restaurants.  Write at different coffee bars.  [Write AT ALL for a change most of you!]  [Hah!  Got’em!]

Don’t let yourself stagnate where you are and have been

Perhaps the most important aspect of this card is that it indicates your destiny is trying to reach out to you and for you.  Will you be there?   If you will, bear in mind the insight of the card; it reminds us to understand  and be conscious of the impact of our actions upon others.

Know what you want.  Don’t be crazy, but be willing to try something unusual or out of character to get it.  Reach out for your destiny.

Bright blessings — without even the least little hint of  judgemental! [I mean it!]

Quote for the Day:  Live each day as though it were your last, but learn as though you will live forever. ~ Irish saying

Today’s Weather:  Stones crack in the frosty night, saying ecky, ecky, ecky, ecky, fuhclang-zoom-boing!

Tarot Card ~ January 24

January 24, 2011
  Knight of Cups

Galahad

Cortune Cookie: Think upon the commitments for this lifetime that you made before you came into being.  Determine the next few steps to keep you moving along that path –  or the first steps that will be necessary to move you back onto that path.  And GET GOING!

  Sorry.  Got no pitch’…

Well….  We last saw this card almost exactly two months ago to the day.  Have been feeling a lack of this guy’s energy meself.  It’s a card of sacred questing, and for all of us, whatever our spiritual path, it’s a good reminder to look at and remember what’s REALLY important and worthwhile and magical and holy — at any time of year.

The Knight of Cups is always a good energy & good advice card.  As I have said, I think of this as the card of the sacred quest.

Therefore, if you have been feeling that your life really isn’t going in the direction you and God (Spirit, The Universe, the Universal Life Force, the Big Enchilada, Maggie Smith, The Voice of John Cleese,  Jimmy Fallon – whoever) agreed to before you accepted birth this time around:

HEY!  YOU!!!!

Don’t you think it’s time to reconnect and GET GOING?

Some readers might interpret the Knight of Cups as the coming of a messenger, advancement in the world, or a graceful but not warlike person of great masculine energy [think Baryshnikov, I guess. Or Glenn Close?].  Others could say it indicates someone (maybe you?) ingenious, full of original ideas (probably you!) .

Anna-Marie Ferguson, creator of the Legend deck I use, feels this card betokens a tempting proposal which deserves serious consideration. [However, avoid snakes in apple trees and guys playing the fiddle at crossroads. Things rarely work out.]  Also, an approaching opportunity for advancement.  Or an unexpected gift. [Duh!] So if something like that crosses your path today, assume you deserve it, accept it fully and gratefully, and run with it!

I still like my intuitive interpretation best. [And I say that with no modesty whatsoever.]

Think upon the commitments for this lifetime

that you made before you came into being.

 Determine the next few steps

to keep you moving along that path –

or the first steps that will be necessary

to move you back onto that path.

And GET GOING!

Bright blessings and remembrance of your sacred self, and the sacred in us all and everywhere!

Quote for the Day: Live your daily life in a way that you never lose yourself. When you are carried away with your worries, fears, cravings, anger, and desire, you run away from yourself and you lose yourself. The practice is always to go back to oneself.  ~ Thich Nhat Hanh

Today’s Weather:  A transdimensional eisteddfod just inside the hollies.  Look for a deus ex macarena!

On This Date: 1984 – The first Apple Macintosh goes on sale. [Look for a deus ex macintosh!]

A beige, boxy computer with a small black and white screen showing a window and desktop with icons.

The Hanged Man

Castle Perilous

Fortune Fookie: Stay much more aware ~ especially intuitively ~ than normal.  Know that positive energy and opportunities are near and can benefit you.  Reach out and take hold of them, one by one, to get where you intend.

We last saw this fellow almost exactly three months ago. Let’s see if we learned anything ‘t all from the good advice he brought last time. Maybe?

Here we go:  [Gonzo Tarot reader slowly and carefully sidles to far end of table, humming “Who put the bop In the bop shoo bop shoo bop?” or some other pleasant but innocuous tune.]

[As Sir Terry Pratchett put it in his book, The Light Fantastic, “He moved in a way that suggested he was attempting the world speed record for the nonchalant walk.”]

This is one of those cards whose visual depiction can set clients whimpering and collapsing into themselves in a repetitive rocking fugue the moment it’s seen.  Pretty amazing, really. I suppose I can understand that. The name alone is enough to cause mewling in all of the hardiest guys I’ve read for − okay in the only hardy guy I’ve read for.

Some decks picture a fellow hanging by a rope upside down by one leg from a tree, possibly with his head about to take a deep dunk in a fast flowing river.

Even my deck, Legend by Anna-Marie Ferguson pictures a passle-o-knights left hanging in a grove, one leg and both arms tied behind their backs to show the world that they were rendered utterly powerless and had, one by one, failed in their quests.

So I get why some readers interpret the card as indicating restriction, sacrifice or − at best − feeling drained.  Sort of an  I need Ativan and a B12 shot kinda energy, ya see.

As the regular blog crew expects by now, I see the card differently.  When it turns up for a client, whatever area of his or her life we’re examining, I usually say something like,

“Okay.  Right away now.  Keep breathing.  Nice deep breaths.  Good!  Not too much.  Don’t hyperventilate.  Have a little brandy or a shot o’ Jack Black, maybe a little Cuervo action. Try some flower essences.  Take a hit of this.  Good.  Hey!  Give it back!

“Now.  There are several levels of meaning to this card.

“First, what the card is saying to you is, ‘If you’ve been feeling stuck in place or like you’re so deep in a rut you can’t see over the edge… Guess what?  Good news! You really have been.  You aren’t just a whining, puling little git.  And knowing that should actually make you feel better, Spunky!

“‘Second, it’s time for you to move up and out of that stuck space.  And very soon, if not immediately!’”

And this is How.

So pay attention.

The Hanged Man asks that you be extra vigilant in keeping your intuitive antenna up for strong, wise, functional, interested and caring energy that can and will help pull you out of your rut.

The help may come in small chunks, like a better-paying job that can move you forward − as opposed to winning the Mega Millions jackpot. [Sorry!  Remember, I’m just the messenger here.] But the help will be there, maybe even is already here, and it will be there in the ways that can really, truly benefit you.

Your mission then is to stay tuned in, be aware, notice the positive energy or helpful opportunity, reach out for it and grab onto it when it shows up, and use it to move you along to where you really want to be.

As if that weren’t enough, I find that there is an additional directive from the Hanged Man.

The card basically says that, in those moments when the new, positive, helpful energy and opportunities aren’t readily apparent – and those moments happen to all of us − your mission is to refuse to get sucked into the old It sucks to be me! I’m hopeless!  I’m helpless! whirlpool.

Rather, use the time for deep prayer, healing meditation, shamanic journeying, etc.

Go deep within for wisdom and direction; embrace your own spirituality, guidance, hope and healing.

Use the “fallow time” in practices that will help you become more fully connected to your truer, deeper, self and to the channels of spiritual power and assistance around you.

So:

Stay aware.

Stay much more aware than normal, in fact, especially intuitively

Know that positive energy and opportunities are there and will benefit you.  Reach out and take hold of them, one by one, to get you where you intend.

If nothin’s shakin’, use the time for prayer, meditation, magical and deep wisdom studies and spiritual practice to increase those elements that are of and for your highest and best.

Bright blessings and beautiful positive flow upward, out to freedom!

Quote for the Day: You are what you want to become. Why search anymore? You are a wonderful manifestation. The whole universe has come together to make your existence possible. There is nothing that is not you. ~ Thich Nhat Hanh

Today’s Weather:  Galaxy casserollee.  Starbender menders.  And wherefore the Humuhumunukunukuapua’a?  Eh?

On this Date: 1556 – The deadliest earthquake in history, the Shaanxi earthquake, hits Shaanxi province, China. The death toll may have been as high as 830,000.

Page of Spears

The Hare

Fortune Cookie: Love and honor your inner mad artist.  Embrace and empower him or her today.  And begin that wonderful new… WHATEVER!

[Tarot reader stares blankly at monitor.  Wonders what he has to do to get  the import and impact of this card across…  better.  Comes up with a few cuss words even God has never heard.  Wonders if they in fact came in honor of this card?  Wonders if he can still lay hands on that hookah from the spring of ’71 at Johns Hopkins.  Decides to just get back to the card.  Sigh.]

As I know I’ve said before, this little guy’s energy is ALWAYS welcome around here, although the last very special time we saw him was all the way back toward the beginning of… Wednesday.

Come on guys.  This is one of those wonderful GET OUT OF JAIL FREE kinda cards.  Use it!

Some readers find this card signals a dark young man (person?), an envoy or postman, and therefore, NEWS!  So keep an eye out for any and all of those, if it feels right.

Others would see him as representing a strange message or a desire to learn new things or expand current knowledge.  [I suppose this could be a metaphysical encouragement for me, as I’m meeting later today with my favorite astrologer about the possibility of beginning some podcasting.  That’s pretty Page of Spears.]

Anna-Marie Ferguson, creator of the Legend deck, finds the Page of Spears to betoken stimulating communications [like you wish this was], arrival of good things, and a trustworthy, enthusiastic assistant, among other possibilities.  [I’ll take a dozen, God, please.  And a side each of marketing director, web master, barkeep and massotherapist. To go.]

As a totem animal, Hare betokens joyfulness, enthusiasm, wonderful loopy abandon (Mad as a March Hare) and creativity, creation or procreation.  So this card asks that you release your inner wildandcrazyjoyfulartist, especially today.

Yep!  Somethin’ like that!

Let yourself connect or reconnect with those elements of yourself and your life that encourage freedom, playfulness, creativity and JOY!

And as far as the procreation part is concerned, if you’ve been thinking about making a baby − or opening a new business or giving birth to a major new project or direction in life − Do It!  Do It!  Begin today!

Love and honor your inner mad artist.  Embrace and empower him or her today.  And begin that wonderful new… WHATEVER!

Bright, joyful, creative blessings!

Oracle Card ~ January 21

January 20, 2011
Daily Tarot is taking the evening off.

Froud Faeries’ Oracle Online Card is below

Gloominous Doom

Self-defeat. Self-pity.

Self-destruction.

Taking care of ourselves.

It is time to face the fact that our attitudes and beliefs about ourselves are our own. We may have learned them from others, but the others are not responsible for them in the here and now. We are. If we choose self-pity and pessimism, we make a choice that makes our lives worse. When this card appears in a reading it indicates that this is a time that is especially important–a time when there is some sort of a crunch in the situation that offers someone the opportunity to notice and change such self-destructive habits. If it is yourself, you know what you need to do. If it is someone else, you may wish to consider how you might support them in this opportunity for change. Can you make sure to give positive feedback at every appropriate opportunity? Can you refrain from nagging, scolding, or complaining at them when they get it wrong? These things help.

Tarot Card ~ January 20

January 20, 2011
The Hermit

Lancelot in Exile

Fortune Cookie: Find the pure and beautiful light within you, acknowledge it, engage it, and begin bringing it out as a gift to and a healing for the world.

We last saw this card at the end of October.

As I’ve said before whenever this card came up:

This would be a good time to remember that

~ each Tarot card has many facets to its meaning and

~ it can be important to tease out as many of the meanings as you can for yourself

~ including meanings that seems to contradict themselves

~ to get a sense of what you might need to be aware of on any given day

Is that sufficiently unclear?

Okay, let’s try it from another perspective.  As I have also said before:

There are lots of different Yous going on during even a single morning, let alone a whole day, a whole career, etc.

Although you perceive yourself to be pretty much the same from morning till night, and day in and day out,

~ You’re likely a very different person with the paper boy who leaves your paper perfectly where you want it [you remember what a newspaper is, don’t you?]

~ than you are with the cats who keep lovingly flopping on the movie reviews as you try to read them.

~ And you’re a different person with them than you are with the partner who always manages to be just a few minutes later moving his/her car out of the way so you can head for work than you would like.

~ And you’re different with her/him than you are with that whiney but important client who demands that you see her half an hour earlier than you see anyone else (and then shows up 45 minutes late).

~ or the lovely but dotty neighbor who always drives a bit over the edge of your lawn but gives you potted plants and flowers at once a month, perhaps in apology

~ and the other neighbor who is wonderful but keeps throwing chum out for the zombies, who grab it and eat it on (and throw leftovers all around) your porch.  Yum!

See?  LOTS of different Yous.

And that’s not even on a day fraught with emotional charge, elevated hopes, escalated fears, fat, sugar and alcohol.  Oh, wait.  Valentine’s Day is… later.

So what does that have to do with The Hermit?

Wait.

Wait.

Wait.

It’ll come to me.

Wait.

Ummm…

Oh.  Yeah.

So…

As I’ve said before, you’d assume a card with a name like The Hermit would be pretty self-evident in its meaning, right?

Well, sort of.  For once.  In this case, anyway.  I mean, if you’ve been aching for some alone time away from the madding crowd to recuperate, get grounded and centered, this is definitely your card of permission in that regard.  [So, yeah, you can tell your boss it was all Neal’s fault you didn’t show for mandatory fun with your coworkers at the company snowball fight, Jelloshot Jeopardy competition and witch hunt today.]  But be sure to create and take advantage of favorable energies if you let yourself have the time and space this way today.  [Don’t just hide under the bed.  Like I would.  Use the day of freedom wonderfully! It will be valuable and helpful.]

But…

But, but, but, but, but!!!  The more specific applicability of The Hermit on any given day is that, when this card shows up in a reading, I’m most likely to say to a client,

Ah.  Yes.  Hermit.

It’s time to go really deep within yourself and do some much needed soul-searching.

The intent will be to find the pure and beautiful light within you, acknowledge it, engage it, and begin bringing it out as a gift to and a healing for the world.

Please see whether you don’t really resonate to that aspect of the card today.  In fact, go out of your way to try to resonate with it.  It’ll help you get through the day.  And your vibe will probably help everyone else in the process.

By the way, this card can also indicate a meeting with a wise person.  So don’t let that slip by if you perceive a likely opportunity.  [Maybe you know, like, a pretty good, uh, Tarot reader or somethin’?  Or you could buy a new Magic 8 Ball?  Or flippa coin.]

In any case:

Find your light.

Shine it in the world.

Bright BRIGHT Blessings!
